BUILDING A CYCLEKART
BUILDING A CYCLEKART
BUILD SERIES no. 8: Restoration
PEUGEOT RESTORATION
We should call it the build, re-build, re-build and re-build again series. If one builds a car in the true cyclekart spirit and then races it in the true cyclekart spirit it is going to need to be rebuilt, over and over. Either there will be a spectacular failure, the Fiat’s exploding wheel, the Austro-Daimler’s snapped front axle, or just a general dishevelment.
The 2011 Champion Peugeot, as an example, has just been in for a much deserved spa weekend following getting roughed up at Gittreville. What we might call a reverse mud bath treatment. She was generally mechanically fine after the Grand Prix but the bodywork was in a sorry state. Everything looked tired. The radiator was shattered. The body frame members were split and cracked. There was no luster left in the finishes. Everything mechanical was caked in grit. Many fasteners were loose, some entirely missing.
The body came off and was repaired. The chassis was re-brushed and the bonnet re-sprayed. The wood work refinished. Shiny bits were made shiny again. Everything was cleaned and adjusted. Suspension tuned. Engine pampered.
The GN, Fiat, Panhard and Austro-Daimler are headed through the same process.
